The Sky is the Limit : Augmented Reality

OMG. I was 15 minutes early for class. I thought deep inside I was looking forward to attend this particular session. I was not wrong : emerging future technology is the best topic discussed in this class so far.

Interesting Points

“Imagination is more important than knowledge.
For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand.”
-Albert Einstein –

That quotation from Albert Einstein given by Prof at the beginning of the session is absolutely true. Imagination in this present time might become the knowledge in the near future; thus, imagination is much more essential than knowledge in the sense that it will shapes the knowledge we will have in the future.

From one of the reading Prof gave before, I found particularly one article that states that augmented reality is the third most important emerging technology especially if applied in educational sector. It regarded the current education system, lectures, taking notes, or exams, is obsolete and thus will be replaced by augmented reality system in the future. While it seems that augmented reality is very promising, which will enables students to interact face to face and able to 'feel' the real condition of the subject they are learning, augmented reality might possesses one problem that are obviously overlooked by many people, including the author itself.

This little yet important thing that is overlooked is that augmented reality will likely to be disadvantageous to a certain group of people : cognitive learner students. I personally prefer this so-called 'obsolote' education system which requires me to take notes and write the things I am learning in order for me to be able to learn faster. For other cognitive learners, I honestly believe that they will probably face the similar problem to cope with the new education system that will let them interact with the subject they are learning directly. Besides, I think that the current educational system is already rooted in our society and it will not be an easy task to replace it.

Peer presentation
One of my peer presentation, especially Michelle's, is really interesting. The fact that augmented reality can be applied in our everyday live is totally fascinating. Imagine this : everywhere you look, whether at your shirt, at your friend, or at your house, you will immediately receive the information regarding the object you observe. Yes, it is kind of stalking; but, yes, it is evolutionary change. The implementation of augmented reality in our lives will definitely change the way we perceive things and people. However, I don't know yet what will happen or how different will we be if augmented reality is successfully implemented in our lives. The sky is indeed the limit !

Further Discussion
Which one do you prefer : to be able to know every detail of information of things around you or the way we live right now ?

10/10 ! Yes, this session is indeed fascinating.
